Frequently Asked Questions
Will the workshops be recorded or broadcast? Can I attend remotely?
We understand the challenges of working remotely, and traveling between campuses. However, unless otherwise stated, workshops will not be recorded or broadcast. The workshops are designed as interactive sessions for those who are in the room. There are many excellent online resources for learning these skills, and the materials from the workshops are usually available online as well. See the Research Computing Services Training Page for online training options and other resources.
I’m not affiliated with Northwestern. Can I attend?
Unless otherwise stated in the workshop registration info, unfortunately no. These workshops have limited spots available and are subsidized with university resources. They are only open to Northwestern students, postdocs, faculty, and staff. In addition, a Northwestern NetID is required to access the Northwestern wireless network, which is often required for workshops.
Do I need a laptop?
Unless otherwise stated, our workshops require you to bring your own laptop with the necessary software installed. We unfortunately do not have laptops we can loan, and the rooms available for most workshops do not have computers in them. Northwestern Libraries have a limited number of laptops available to loan, but they may not have the necessary software. Workshops in Galter Library in Chicago are usually held in a room with some computers, but they may not have all the necessary software installed.
The workshop I want is full. What should I do?
Please join the waitlist for the workshop (from the Eventbrite registration). If folks cancel, we’ll release tickets to those on the waitlist. If there are a lot of people on the waitlist, we’ll see what we can do about offering an additional workshop (no promises!).
I can no longer attend. What should I do?
Please cancel your registration (see below) so someone else can attend instead.
How do I cancel my registration/get a refund?
You can cancel your registration through Eventbrite. Log in to your account to find your tickets, or look for the confirmation email you received from Eventbrite when you registered.
Do I need to bring my Eventbrite ticket to the workshop?
Nope. We’ll ask you to sign in on an attendance sheet.
